Does life beyond your loss seem unimaginable?

You’re heartbroken after the death of your loved one, perhaps feeling stuck in your grief or struggling to cope with the heavy “waves” of emotions when they hit.

Maybe it’s difficult to find balance between continuing to live after your loss and remembering and honoring your loved one, or you struggle with letting yourself be happy again.

Perhaps you’re feeling like a part of you died with your loved one and that you and your view of everything and everyone around you has changed.

Whatever it is that you’re experiencing, you’re beginning to notice the impact of your loss in every facet of your life:

  • Feeling devastated every time you are reminded of your loved one and how much you miss them

  • Experiencing isolation and loneliness because your loved ones “don’t get it,” you feel disconnected from or upset with God because he allowed this to happen, or you find yourself pulling away from relationships

  • Finding little hope, joy, or peace anymore in your life and in the world

Grief Counseling can help.

It may feel impossible now, but you can discover relief in the midst of the pain of your loss with the help of a fellow Christian.

You can learn how to cope and grieve in a healthy way and make sense of your loss in light of your Christian faith.

You can find hope, joy, and peace in life again, without “moving on” or forgetting your loved one. And I can help you get there.

Grief Counseling helps you do 3 things:

Share

Experience a safe, compassionate place to share what you’re going through and to feel understood and supported by a Christian therapist who gets what you’re saying.

Reflect

Receive sensitive and customized guidance, discovering fresh perspectives about grief and living with loss, especially as someone who believes in God and eternal life but may still have questions.

Cope

Learn helpful coping tools and healthy ways to grieve, so you can experience joy, hope, and peace again while still honoring and remembering your loved one.

I’ll help through this process, tailoring each step to your unique needs and circumstances in your counseling sessions. My approach to grief counseling comes from a place of hope: believing in eternal life and believing that you can adjust to life after your loss and find joy and peace again while keeping your loved one’s memory alive.

It’s time to get the relief and peace that you need.

I can help you get there.

Common questions about Grief Counseling:

  • Therapy sessions with me are conversational and approachable.  I show from the very beginning kindness and respect to help you feel comfortable and safe, so you can open up and describe the pain of your loss and know you will receive compassion and validation.  Some sessions are heavy as we explore the effects of your loss; others are light- hearted when you need a break from the grief and we joke that your life is like a meme or TikTok video.  I want you to be yourself as I am my authentic therapist self.  My therapy sessions are collaborative and I welcome your feedback and questions as we work together to help you find peace and adjust to life going forward as you continue to honor your loved one.

I like to start sessions with updates from you- how did the family gathering go?  Were you able to visit the cemetery over the weekend like you hoped? Then we will dive into what is on your mind: for example, the details of your loss experience, the effects it has on your mental health and relationships, or your worries about how you will do with the upcoming holidays.  We may also do some problem solving, such as planning for the death anniversary, and may even try an exercise in session.  Finally, we will conclude our session by confirming our next appointment and, if faith is important to you, end with a personalized prayer just for you.

  • Therapy may be a good fit for you if you are ready to not suffer alone anymore and are ready to walk with a supportive, caring professional on your journey with grief. You may be uncertain of the future and uncomfortable with your feelings, but you’re ready to face the discomfort of talking about them in order to get the help and relief you deserve.  You are willing to self-reflect and have an open mind to what you may learn in session about yourself, your experience, and navigating grief in a healthy way.  You’re ready to do what it takes in session and outside session in your daily life to restore balance, peace and fulfillment in your life. Therapy is a big investment of time, money, and energy, but you are ready to commit to the process.

  • As a Christian therapist, I offer a blend of evidence-based mental health counseling for grief and Christian spirituality for clients interested in incorporating their Christian faith for a more holistic approach to therapy. I could be a good option for you if you are looking for a therapist who is a fellow believer who will respect and not judge your Christian faith and hope in eternal life.

Although I specialize in providing therapy to Christians, you do not need to be Christian in order to work with me if we both believe I am a good fit for your needs! If you are not Christian, I am happy to provide secular evidence-based counseling for your unique loss journey that respects your specific spiritual background.

  • I offer grief counseling to couples who are navigating a difficult loss together, including losing a child at any age, because I know that sometimes couples want to receive grief support together rather than individually or they need assistance helping or improving their marriage while they grieve. Grief takes a toll on relationships, doesn’t it?! Similar to my specialty in pregnancy loss therapy for couples, I bring to grief counseling for couples my specialized training in couples counseling and grief counseling, as well as years of experience supporting other couples navigating a shared loss and the impact it has on their relationship.

  • How long you need to be in grief counseling depends on your particular loss and individual needs. Each loss experience is unique and every person responds to loss differently, so you may need more or less time to find peace again. Some clients find it helpful to meet every 1-2 weeks for several months to a year or more; however, I do not want to be attached to a specific timeline.  You will know when to decrease or discontinue sessions when you feel sufficient relief and are ready to face future challenges with less support from me.

Grief is naturally fluid and unpredictable. Over time, we will get a sense of how long you need my support, and I will tailor the counseling process to meet your unique needs.  Ultimately, I want a timeline that works best for you; there is no “right” answer for everyone on this, but there is a good answer for you, and I’ll help you find it!

  • I am happy to offer the convenience and flexibility of online therapy, allowing you to join session from wherever you are in the states of Ohio or Florida! Join session from home, schedule appointments during your workday, or whatever is convenient for you! For your online video sessions, you will need to be in a private and quiet space with a good internet connection and if in your car, parked in a stationary location. In order to do online sessions, you will need to complete a telehealth consent form in advance.

  • Contact me to schedule a free consultation and I will reply to make it happen! During that 30-minute phone conversation, I will ask you to briefly describe the loss that brings you to grief counseling and your goals for our work together. I will answer any questions or concerns that you may have about starting therapy, to make sure you are confident I am a good fit for you!  If we both agree I am a good fit for your needs, I will then ask for some additional basic information about you, confirm some logistical details, and confirm my current availability for scheduling.  Finally, if we’re both ready, I will schedule your first appointment, and I will send you some instructions and the needed paperwork to complete before that appointment. Off we go!
